Whew! After a long time, I am here again, writing...err...typing… my thoughts. I have long been wanting to jot down my feelings and experiences in my new career, but I didn't have the chance because of my very busy schedule.
But anyway..here's what I have to say...
***
I would like to believe I am called to teach...
One of my co-teachers told me that probably, this is my calling. Despite the tiredness and exhaustion brought about by my new job, I can still honestly and truthfully say that I am truly enjoying my work as a teacher.
Yesterday, we just had our field trip and I was tasked to take care of 42 rowdy students...ALONE. I was anxious at first, but sticking to my motto...GOD WILL NOT GIVE ME ANYTHING WHICH I CANNOT HANDLE...
True enough, I survived the day safe and sound. Despite the hard rain and bad weather, I still enjoyed my moment with my so-called "mga anak". I feel so responsible and able when I'm with them. Being with my "mga anak" made me realize that I can and I am able to do a lot of things.
I know that I still have a lot to improve on, and that I am just at the onset of my journey to the path which God, I believe, has prepared for me. There is still a lot of room for improvement and there are a thousand more opportunities for me to perfect my craft. I still need to be stronger, more courageous and more patient... I know that in due time, I will be the person that God wants me to be, not perfect, but worthy in His eyes.

An open letter to the "ONE" God has prepared for me...
Am I sometimes making your life difficult?
Do I not know how to love completely?
Am I indifferent and such a brat at times?
Forgive me for all the hurt that I've caused you...
Pardon the little monster in me which surfaces every now and then...
My apologies if I've taken you for granted...
and for making you sometimes feel forsaken in the middle of our conflicts.
You are God's answer to my prayer...
I have long waited for you and I would say that you really are worth the wait...
How I wish the tears I've shed would just wash away my flaws so that I'd be perfect... not in its truest sense... but perfect for you...
I look forward to that day that everything would fall into their proper places, just as we had dreamed... imagined.. and believed it would be...
Please don't think of letting go...
I love you...
I really do...
"The best use of life is love. The best expression of love is time. The best time to love is now."

Kansahamnida...
“Teacher, this is Joon...”
I was so elated upon hearing him on the other end of the line... I nearly jumped for joy.
I just received a call from Joon, one of my 1st batch of students. For a 13 year old to do that, it was so overwhelming for me. He called all the way from Korea. When they were still here, a number of my students asked for my cellphone number and email address and told me that they would call me when they go back to their country. I did not expect that one of them would really call.
I guess I’m beginning to experience now the simple joys of teaching. Receiving a call from my student, or even emails, gives me an overwhelming feeling... People might think I am so assuming, but really, it makes me think and feel that they appreciated me well and that I’ve been a good teacher to them.
Perhaps I became really attached to my students even if we’ve been together for almost two months only. I miss them badly soon after they left. I tried to communicate with them thru email, but to no avail! I nearly gave up. I guess that was it. I was ready to accept that I would never see them ever again or even hear from them, until the day Joon called. I regret it so much not being able to give them anything, even a simple note, as a souvenir. But as one of my co-teachers told me, “The knowledge you’ve imparted to them is sufficient enough for them to forever remember you.” True enough, I feel, they appreciated me that much.
I hope to see them again in the near future... I hope they would not only remember the pollution here in the Philippines, the BIG cockroaches, and all the mosquitoes that have been with them since they set foot in this country... I’m sure they had lots of fun and happy memories too which would want them to go back to this beautiful country.
"…For the two months we’ve spent together without thinking much of the language barrier... for the snacks we’ve shared... for the smiles we gave to one another... I did not only help you improve your English knowledge... I was also improved... you made me a better person."
So to all my students, KANSAHAMNIDA... in my native language... MARAMING SALAMAT!
(Betty... thanks also for sending emails even if you’re busy. I am still awaiting for the others to keep in touch with me... I really miss you all...)
